Again, thank you very much for your help.
I have set the module following the instructions on the manual, but it does not show on the homepage. The attachment "Capture" shows what I see when only the Slideshow module is published, assigned to the slideshow position: there are the arrows, but no image shows.
I tried to create a custom module with an image in it, and assigned it to the slideshow position as well: by doing so, the slideshow does appear, but it is underneath the image I put in the custom module - please let me know if I am not explaining myself! Capture1 in attachment shows the slideshow and the image on top of it.
How do I get the slideshow only to show?

You should choose Slide Type is Responsive.
