I have the same problem but it is not just a recent issue, it has happened every time I have tried using JF slideshow within a JF template or standalone.
I have just re-installed jf_creativia quickstart with all settings left as standard and not updated, no files changed and when I open JF slideshow and close it without making any changes it throws up a 403 forbidden error, see image.
I updated Joomla to 3.2.4 and tried again, same issue. I updated the slideshow to latest release, same issue. This is all without making any changes from admin. Created .htaccess, still same issues.
I have experienced exactly the same issue on 4 different servers/accounts from 3 different hosting companies running sequel and various recent php releases.
I have experienced this with standard templates, I have tried loading this on a complete clean basic Joomla 3 installation with only Joomla templates, same issue. I have tried testing it on T3, Gantry, K2 set-ups with various templates with and without data loaded and every single time without fail I get the 403 and in some instances it takes down the whole website or at least the admin making access to admin impossible.
It appears to be a server dependant issue but I have not the time to spend any more time trying to get this working.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.
