You can disable social icons in template params in backend.

wholesimple.com/www.facebook.com/wholesimple

wholesimple.com/www.twitter.com/wholesimple

I should be redirected to:

www.facebook.com/wholesimple

www.twitter.com/wholesimple

You need to add http:// also in administrator area / template social links params
