On categoryview with articles listed, the main images of the articles are horizontally placed smack together (screenshot in attachment). This is not a problem in the modules on the homepage (looks great), only when viewing a category's contents. Picking 2, 3, 4,... column layout does not affect this issue, neither do image w/h ratio's or anything else I tried. Can I get a hint how/where to solve this please?

I fixed the problem mentioned in my initial post for one category by selecting 'portfolio' as template in the categorysettings (for 'foto & video). Then I copied this category, edited it into 'optredens', moved my two test items there, but the problem persists in that category! Beats me how that's possible. So now I have one category looking like I want it to, and another doing it's own thing . Please help me out here.

Never mind, I fixed it. Don't ask me how though... Where copying a category or having a new category inherit parameter settings didn't work, fiddling with the category settings seems to have done the trick. Last thing I did before correct display showed up is enter size settings for images, go figure...
